Mmm’s Egoma Oil (perilla oil) are made from black perilla seeds grown without the use of any chemical fertilisers in Japan. Egoma seeds are first roasted in low temperature and then extracted by a cold-pressed machine that can take up to 600kg of pressure. Mmm’s Egoma oil is so precious because 1kg of Egoma seeds can only produce 300g of Egoma oil using this method. Furthermore, supply of Egoma oil in Japan is already limited and sometimes cheaper sources from neighbouring countries are imported to fulfil domestic demand in Japan. However the cultivation method and harvesting process of such imports may differ. No chemicals or additives are used during the refining process of Mmm’s extra virgin Egoma oil.
What is Egoma?
Egoma（荏胡麻）is an annual plant cultivated in East Asia at higher altitudes. It is often mistaken as sesame or being in the same family as the sesame but it actually belongs to the Perilla plant family.
The perilla plant has the largest content of α-linolenic acid in the world; as much as 67% of α-linolenic acid is available from the plant. The iron content of Perilla is also the largest among edible seeds, at 16mg per 100g. It is also rich in minerals like calcium and magnesium.
Why do you need Egoma oil?
α-linolenic acid is an essential oil for pets and human beings alike because it cannot be synthesised within our bodies. It is an essential fatty acid that has to be taken from food. α-linolenic acid enhances your ability to burn fat by promoting the breaking down of excess fat making it harder for fat to be stored away in your body.
The body can break down α-linolenic acid to make the omega-3 fatty acids, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which are said to help lower level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (“Bad cholesterol”) in your body reducing the risk of heart related diseases over time.
In addition, DHA is said to improve the efficiency of your brain making it easy to study, work, and even help slow down senile-like diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
The distinct fragrance and buttery texture of the Egoma oil can make any meal extra appetising due to their keen sense of smell. Don’t be surprised if your pup licks the bowl to the very last drop! Pups with insufficient oils tend to have rough fur coats. Supplement your pup’s diet daily with Egoma oil for a boost of health and a smoother fur coat at the same time.
